Caitlyn Holds the Key

DSG Alumni and Noongar woman Caitlyn Keyser recently commenced a Certificate 4 in Business and is flourishing in her second year out of school.

Caitlyn, a proud member of the Eades family, graduated with a WACE certificate from Sevenoaks Senior College in 2017 and was a member of Wirrpanda Foundation’s Deadly Sista Girlz program in its inaugural year at the school.

In Year 10, Caitlyn completed a Certificate 3 in Business at Yule Brook College and another Certificate 3 in Business Administration while based at Sevenoaks in Year 11.

After completing her third Certificate 3 in Finance at St. George’s Bank in the Perth CBD in 2018 Caitlyn wasted no time in attaining her latest position through AFL Sportsready.

Her new workplace is the Faculty of Business and Law and Caitlyn believes her journey was greatly assisted by the DSG program and mentors Buffie, Jacinta and especially Yule Brook College AIEO Tammy Hayden.

“My best memory of DSG was being able to be in a group environment, feel comfortable and unified with all the girls at school,” she said, adding: “DSG always provided us a safe space to commit to work studies, find alternatives to issues and have a simple yarn with the mentors.”

Caitlyn reflects on her time at Yule Brook and Sevenoaks College where she completed a school-based traineeship: “I committed to a two-year, one day per week at TAFE traineeship and used all the support available at school and before I knew it I was finished and everyone was so proud of my achievement,” she said.

Caitlyn is saving to buy a house with her partner at the end of the year and is working hard to complete her Certificate 4 then plans to continue her education at University level.

Her advice to younger DSG participants: “It’s not how much you know it’s how much you can commit yourself and keep trying,” she said.

Alumni such as Caitlyn will continue to inspire DSG participants and Wirrpanda Foundation staff remain available to support and mentor her through this significant chapter of life.
