Job Role: Deadly Sista Girlz Mentor
Location: Broome, WA
Describe a typical days work at the Foundation: Every day is different in this role but a typical day looks like the following; school pickups in the morning for those who need extra support getting to school, providing the girls constant encouragement during the day and making sure they are getting to classes on time, assisting with sessions during the day – session times is also a chance for us to properly catch up with the girls and check in about how they are going with school work/general wellbeing, mentoring girls who come in to the centre and need to talk about personal issues going on in their life and laughing and talking with our DSG girls who come and spend recess and lunch with us in the room
Favourite part of being a mentor: Being someone at the school who the girls know they can come to; whether it being stress from school or personal problems going on. It’s awesome being in a position where we can encourage the girls to stay engaged in school and other activities by leading by example. Another favourite part is building a stronger relationship with the girls and seeing how they become more comfortable and trusting of you.
