Our DSG students were invited to the West Coast Eagles headquarters to take part in an AFLW Clinic run by the West Coast Eagles Community Team. The girls were lucky enough to be joined by multiple AFLW players, making the experience even more special.
The session was fun and active, with the girls getting a chance to practise their kicking, marking, and goal kicking in preparation for our annual Waalitj Cup. It wrapped up with a handball game that showcased teamwork and plenty of smiles.
The next day, 11 of our DSG schools came together for our annual Football carnival, Waalitj Cup.
The girls arrived excited, ready to kickstart the day. The day began with an insightful Welcome to Country by Irene Stainton AO and opening remarks and rules by DSG team manager Megan D’Agostino. Kirra from Fremantle college was then invited up to read the DSG player pledge.
The competition was a round robin of two pools, each team just as competitive as the next, with some great skills and effort on show.
After a few rounds the girls had a lunch break and joined each other for an amazing sausage sizzle prepared by volunteers from Western Power.
The top teams of each pool came together to play each other in the grand final, Governor Stirling vs Armadale SHS. It was a great game with lots of hard-fought contests. Afte two halves of consistent play, Governor Stirling came out on top and were named premiers of Waalitj Cup 2025!
Teamwork was on show throughout the day with multiple girls switching to fill into teams who were lacking numbers.
A DSG participant said her favourite part of the day was ‘How we all come together and be a team and show resilience’
