Pathway to Employment for Indigenous Australians
Plan 2day 4 2morrow (P242) is a pre-employment program assisting Indigenous job seekers in the Perth Metropolitan, Peel, and Goldfields regions of Western Australia.
P242 focuses on improving employability of Indigenous job seekers through the development of foundation skills and work readiness. Program delivery combines weekly pre-employment group sessions (Fit 4 Work) with individual mentoring support.
To anyone considering coming to the Waalitj Foundation, I would say do it and do not give up. Sometimes the things fall through or don’t pan out as you had hoped and you do feel down when something doesn’t turn out well or the way you expected, but just keep in touch with Waalitj. Keep going and don’t give up, and work, work, work. Work with Waalitj and they will get you a job.

Integrated Approach to Employment and Wellbeing
Fit 4 Work sessions incorporate presentations from potential employers, complimentary service providers (including health/mental health) with physical activity, mock interviews, budgeting sessions, Assessment Centres for multiple roles and promotion of healthy lifestyle choices. The Foundation’s mentors deliver the weekly program and provide mentoring support for participants whilst also improving the health and wellbeing of attendees.
P242 builds capacity within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community by working with participants to develop strategies that overcome vocational and non-vocational barriers. The program connects participants with appropriate services to ensure they have the best opportunity in achieving their goals. P242 provides wrap around support by collaborating with government and non-government organisations such as Curtin Tax Clinic, Aboriginal Legal Service, Services Australia, Moorditj Koort, North Metropolitan TAFE and Department of Justice to achieve positive, long-term outcomes for participants.
Sandy and the team will bend over backwards for you. They’ll put the potential in you. They will see that in you and put you through to any job you want to go for. They will even help you do your resumes and everything. If you show you’re keen, they will be twice as keen to help you, I mean get right behind you and support you all the way. So, if you want to do it, go to Fit4Work and do it.

Personalised Mentoring and Cultural Support for Aboriginal Jobseekers
The individual mentoring component of the program is guided by the development of an Individual Pathway Plan; identifying interests, competencies, barriers to employment and training needs. Individual mentoring and support is offered from entry into the program through to six-months post-employment placement.
P242 program mentors are connecters and advocators, breaking down barriers of employment, between participants and industry. Our employment programs offer workplace mentoring and post placement support once a jobseeker is placed into employment.
Waalitj Foundation community hub in Lathlain provides a ‘drop in centre’ service to Aboriginal participants so that they can access cultural and career support even after their P242 placement has completed.

I’ve found new confidence in myself, I’ve done things that I used to be fearful of and I have conquered them. I feel that I am a better person now. I feel like I can reach my goals and dreams and do the job that I have been wanting to do.
