This workshop is free to attend for First Nations Peoples looking to start a business, or are needing a refresher in basic business concepts and planning.

This entry-level program is aimed at those who are thinking of starting a business but are not sure where to begin. All in all, this workshop is aimed to assist participants to explore and map their business idea and to provide practical steps towards business readiness along with connecting to a range of business supports and resources.

PART 1 – AM I READY

This session is designed to introduce participants to a range of pre-planning considerations prior to starting a business. The session comprises (4) initial steps towards start-up, including;

Step 1: What about my business idea?

Step 2: Have I got what it takes?

Step 3: Will it work?

Step 4: Do I have enough support?

PART 2 – DO I HAVE A PLAN?

In this section participants will be introduced to the planning process of their business. As with any plan, they’ll need to have some goals, objectives and justifications to base their plans on.

This workshop is free to attend for First Nations Peoples hoping to learn about HR basics for their business.

This practical and interactive 90-minute workshop will help Aboriginal business owners understand the HR basics and put strong workplace foundations in place. Using plain English, practical examples and discussion, the workshop will cover business structure, the WA state and national workplace relations systems, award coverage, pay, employment types, contracts, job descriptions, workplace policies, employee records and induction. The workshop will also briefly introduce the business owner’s responsibility to provide a physically and psychologically safe workplace.

OUTCOMES:

Participants will leave the workshop with a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and practical steps they can take in their own business.

Participants will learn how to:

• understand their business structure and which workplace relations system may apply.

• follow a practical process for checking award coverage, classification and pay.

• understand the differences between full-time, part-time, casual and fixed-term employees and contractors.

• recognise the importance of compliant employment contracts, job descriptions and induction.

• identify the essential HR policies, procedures and employee records their business needs.

• recognise basic physical and psychological workplace safety risks.

• identify practical HR actions to complete within the next 30 days.

Starting Strong – An Introduction to Tendering, a practical and engaging workshop designed for Indigenous businesses wanting to better understand the tendering process and build confidence in responding to opportunities.

This workshop is ideal for:

• Businesses new to tendering

• Owners wanting to improve bid quality and compliance

• Organisations pursuing government and private sector opportunities

• Business owners looking to develop a structured tendering process

During the session, participants will learn:

• How the tendering process works

• Understanding compliance and evaluation criteria

• How to position your business competitively

• Common mistakes businesses make when tendering

• Writing strategies that improve response quality

• Tips to save time and reduce stress during submissions

About your Facilitator:

Roz Misiani is the Founder and Managing Director of ProposalPro, an award-winning Australian bid, tender and grants consultancy established in 2008.

With more than two decades of experience in bid and proposal management, Roz is an APMP (Association from Proposal Management Professionals) Certified Practitioner and holds qualifications in Commerce, Strategic Marketing and Project Management, together with a Mini MBA from the Australian Institute of Management.
