First Nations students from across Queensland came together to attend our 2025 Indigenous Scholarship Program High School Camp!

17 First Nations students from across Queensland came together to attend our 2025 Indigenous Scholarship Program High School Camp.

Throughout the camp, students were provided exposure to both tertiary and vocational pathways with involvement from Shell’s QGC Business and supply chain to demonstrate the potential career pathways that exist for the students with Shell QGC.

Day one kicked off with an engaging introduction to QGC, where staff shared insights into the wide range of careers within the organisation. Students were then taken on a tour of a well sights and processing plant, where current workers explained the process of extracting and processing gas and the role that they play in the industry.

The day wrapped up with a visit from MAUDU Collective exploring bush tucker ingredients, remedies and collaborative paintings.

The second day students travelled to University of Southern Queensland Toowoomba Campus. Here they had a tour of the library and the nursing labs that had high-tech automated mannequins that brought simulations to life. Participants also spoke with some current students and lecturers about the opportunities available.

Reflecting on the camp Leann, our Indigenous Scholarship Program Manager, said “It is always a pleasure to be a part of the annual ISP High School Camp, which not only provides a platform for Indigenous students but gives them a unique opportunity to visually experience career pathways in both tertiary and vocational training and employment, and cements everlasting support and friendships amongst the students.”

Some of our participants commented on their experience during the camp ‘My favourite part about the camp was getting amongst our Indigenous community and I loved going to the worksites and seeing how gas gets made”

“My favourite thing was going to the university, it definitely opened up a bunch of experiences and things I didn’t know about, so that was really fun to do” said another one of our participants.

A big thank you to Shell QGC for supporting the camp and allowing our students to learn about Shell QGC’s operations, the vast opportunities available to them and how they would be supported if to choose a career in the gas industry with Shell QGC Operations. The Indigenous Scholarship Program, delivered by the Waalitj Foundation in partnership with Shell’s QGC business, aims to increase First Nations Australians with tertiary and trade qualifications. The program is facilitated by local First Nations mentors who utilise their contextual and cultural understanding to provide individual mentoring for each participant.
