Over the past several months, Workforce Australia Participant, Darcy, has transformed not only his work life but also his confidence, wellbeing and future outlook. When Darcy first connected with the program, he was navigating uncertainty around employment and working to rebuild routine and motivation. Despite this, he showed up, he attended every appointment, stayed open to guidance, and put in the effort to rebuild structure in his life.
His mentor Krissy said the progress he made is clearly visible. Darcy recently arrived at the Waalitj office wearing his BiFood uniform and driving his work truck. He shared that he feels genuinely happy in his role and has been completing strong weekly hours.
“This marks a significant shift from earlier sessions where he expressed concerns about job security and financial pressure,” said Krissy.
His progress extends beyond employment. Darcy is preparing to take time off next month to welcome his son, who is visiting from New Zealand. Krissy said he spoke with excitement about their plans, reflecting renewed energy, emotional wellbeing and a sense of balance that had been missing for some time.
Another significant milestone came recently when Darcy was offered a full‑time Assistant Manager position. This opportunity recognises his reliability, work ethic and the trust he has built with his employer. He is thoughtfully considering the role, exploring ways to balance full‑time responsibilities with his personal care needs.
The Waalitj Foundation mentors deliver the Workforce Australia program in Kalgoorlie with the aim of equipping participants like Darcy with the skills and knowledge to find meaningful employment. Participants are offered career guidance, job placement and post-placement support, training and any necessary licensing or identification. This holistic approach ensures each individual is set up for success when entering employment.
Darcy’s story shows meaningful and sustained progress. Reflecting on his journey, Krissy said, “He has moved from uncertainty to stability, from pressure to pride, and from routine employment to being recognised for leadership potential. His achievements reflect resilience, dedication, and a growing sense of purpose.”
