Waalitj Foundation was proud to attend a recent business fundraiser at The Crooked Spire Coffee House, where more than $20,000 was raised to support vital community reintegration and employment pathways for people transitioning out of custody in Western Australia.
As a valued partner in this work, Waalitj joined local businesses, community leaders and advocates who share a common goal of creating real opportunities for individuals transitioning out of custody and helping break the cycle of recidivism.
One of the highlights of the morning was an inspiring address from Basil Zempilas who spoke about leadership, community spirit, and the collective responsibility local businesses share in building a stronger, safer Western Australia.
Guests also heard from Chris Brown, founder of Thrive Integration, who shared powerful insights into the barriers many people face when leaving custody and the importance of providing genuine employment opportunities and support networks.
Through our collaborative ReSet and RSN programs, Waalitj Foundation supports participants on their journey towards employment, stability and long-term success.
The event provided an opportunity to showcase this work and strengthen connections with partners committed to supporting positive reintegration outcomes. Waalitj Foundation’s RSN Employment Mentors Gavin Jackson and Chris Burns were among those in attendance, joining partners and supporters who share a commitment to creating stronger employment and reintegration pathways.
The event also celebrated the success of a long-standing employment partnership between Hanssen Construction, Thrive Integration and Waalitj Foundation. Over the years, Hanssen has transformed dozens of lives by hiring work-ready candidates straight into the construction sector, turning a $3-a-day jail allowance into a competitive, life-changing wage.
The fundraiser was a reminder of what can be achieved when businesses, community organisations and employers work together.
