Participants from our Djilba and Yirra Dandjoo programs recently enjoyed an action packed morning of go-karting, thanks to Optus.
Participants hit the track for a series of exciting races and were joined by Walkinshaw TWG Racing driver Fabian Coulthard. Fabian shared his racing tips and tricks before taking to the circuit himself, giving participants a unique opportunity to learn from a professional driver and enjoy some friendly competition.
“It is a wonderful opportunity that you wouldn’t get very often in life. So we’ve taken it with both hands. We are here to enjoy it, and the boys are having a great day of fun and racing,” said Caleb, Head of Justice at Waalitj Foundation.
Experiences like these provide young people with opportunities to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence and develop meaningful connections. Through positive experiences and supportive relationships, participants are empowered to make positive choices and work towards a brighter future.
Our Djilba and Yirra Dandjoo programs support young people involved in the youth justice system through culturally safe mentoring, support and meaningful opportunities. By creating positive experiences and strong support networks, the programs help participants work towards positive outcomes for themselves and their families. Caleb highlighted the value of the programs, sharing that “the importance of programs like these is getting support to families and participants within the program, supports that they wouldn’t normally get.”
