Jude Saldanha is a proud young Mandandanji man, living and working on beautiful Turrbal and Jagera (or Yugarabul/Yagara) Country in Queensland. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts with support from our Indigenous Scholarship Program (ISP).
ISP is aimed at increasing the number of Indigenous Australians with tertiary and trade qualifications to enhance employment outcomes, with a specific focus in the resources sector. Each scholarship recipient is guided by an Individual Career Plan, which they establish with their mentor, ensuring they have all the support and tools required to reach their goals.
Taryn, Jude’s ISP Mentor, spoke about Jude’s dedication. “He is an outstanding participant in ISP. He approaches every opportunity with focus and drive. He reflects thoughtfully on his studies, works hard to reach his goals and brings the same fierce commitment to his education, his rugby league team and his community.
His journey has not been without challenges, but Jude has met each one with integrity and courage. Time after time, he has found the strength to push forward, and his efforts are delivering remarkable results,” she said.
While studying, Jude is also making his mark with the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Queensland Cup. Balancing university and elite sport is no small feat, yet Jude continues to rise to the challenge with impressive discipline and dedication.
Then came a moment to remember. In a thrilling grand final showdown, the Dolphins claimed a 28–18 victory over the Sunshine Coast Falcons, with Jude crossing the line as one of the team’s try scorers. The following week, the Dolphins took on the NSW champions, the Penrith Panthers, in the NRL State Championship. Played as the curtain-raiser to the NRLW and NRL Grand Finals on Grand Final Day, the Dolphins delivered a dominant 68–14 win, with Jude once again adding his name to the scoresheet.
Congratulations to Jude and his teammates on an unforgettable achievement. We cannot wait to see where his journey takes him next!
