Parent Pathways Mentor Jasmin has been supporting Kiera, a single mum of two, who joined the program while navigating some personal challenges. At the time, Kiera was struggling to secure stable accommodation, staying with family members when possible and at times sleeping in her car.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Jasmin provided a support letter advocating for Kiera’s need to secure safe and stable accommodation and connected her with external services that could assist.
Our Parent Pathways program is a voluntary service that provides personalised assistance to parents and carers, supporting them to overcome barriers and work towards education and employment goals.
“Through all this she still manages to arrive to her appointments on time, actively engages in the Parent Pathways program and remains focused and driven in creating better opportunities for herself and her children,” said Jasmin.
Kiera was seeking to pursue further study, however the cost of the course presented a barrier, as it exceeded the funding available through her Parent Pathways individual fund.
With Jasmin’s support, an application was submitted through the Employment Enabling fund, supported by the Department of Training and Workforce Development, to cover the course fees, which was successfully approved. The program also funded a laptop to support Kiera’s studies and provided her with food and fuel vouchers.
Kiera said “Jasmin has really helped me feel positive again! I have my course to look forward to and that gives me a lot of hope because I know I will be back in work again in no time.”
Jasmin said working with Kiera has been a powerful reminder of the importance of her role, noting that despite the challenges she has faced, Kiera remains hopeful and optimistic.
“My mentor, Jasmin, has gone above and beyond – I am so appreciative for all she has helped with in such a short time. I have been struggling with things the last few months and haven’t felt like I have been seen or understood by most people. This is the most supported I have felt in a long time,” said Kiera.
Delivered in partnership with Training Alliance Group, the Parent Pathways program focuses on parents and carers and their individual needs. With the help of a qualified mentor, parents and carers can receive flexible support to assist with any personal, study or work goals.
