DSG Team Ready for the New School Year

Our Deadly Sista Girlz (DSG) team held a staff conference in sunny Busselton. Over 3 days our DSG mentors, coordinators and managers discussed strategies and planning, with a focus on enhancing program delivery and student engagement for 2025.

Day one, mentors and coordinators from around Australia travelled and gathered at the Broadwater Resort. The team were greeted with a warm Welcome to Country on the beautiful Geographe Bay beach.  Later that evening, everyone came together for a paint and sip activity and dinner. A range of beautiful artworks were created, including nature stills and fun animal characters!

The next day was a full day of planning! Guided by our DSG team managers, staff reflected on program delivery, and how to improve moving into the new year. Team building throughout the day was encouraged, allowing the mentors to build relationships with each other, creating connections across the DSG sites.

On the final day we travelled 20 minutes out of Busselton to assemble outside the ‘Ngilgi Cave’. Our team climbed 128 ft down into a dark and cold cave to see an array of varied crystal formations including shawls and helictites. Surrounding the cave was a beautiful nature walk with Indigenous facts and information displayed throughout. After a big morning of cave exploring and hiking through the bush, it was time to head back and for everyone to say their goodbyes for now.

This was an excellent opportunity to prepare for the upcoming year to ensure our DSG program can be as impactful as possible for our students. We can’t wait to welcome back our Deadly Sista Girlz this week for term 1!

Deadly Sista Girlz is a culturally-appropriate program designed to improve school attendance and education attainment amongst First Nations girls operating in 18 schools across Australia. DSG is supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, with support from corporate partners. Find out more
