Jaimi- Lee, a proud Merlukedee women living and working on Nipaluna country in Tasmania, graduated her Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of surgery!

Meet Jaimi- Lee Armstrong! Jaimi- Lee is a proud Merlukedee women living and working on Nipaluna country in Tasmania.

Jaimi-Lee recently Graduated her Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of surgery!

“Jaimi-Lee has been such an amazing participant with the Indigenous Scholarship’s program! She has really engaged and gave it her all, sharing her truths behind the challenges of everyday life whilst pushing herself through some tough obstacles!” said her mentor Taryn.

Jaimi-Lee graduated with the highest of achievements, she was awarded 3 different awards, every single one of them was very well deserved!

GE Clemons Memorial Award (One of the highest accolades for the UTAS MBBS awards!)

  • Awarded to the student who passes with merit the final examinations for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and who possesses the qualities of humanity, conscientiousness, and devotion to the profession.

Dr Bill Jackson Memorial Award!

  • The Dr Bill Jackson Memorial Award was established in 1996 and is generously supported by the Rural Doctors Association of Tasmania. Dr Bill Jackson was a champion of general practice everywhere; however he was particularly interested in rural general practice. Awarded annually to the graduating student in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course showing proficiency in rural general practice term in the clinical years of the course.

Clinical distinction award!

  • Eligibility: Pass 95% or more in OSCE Exams in the final two years of study and at least an average of 5% above the pass mark for MCQ/EMQ exam held in Year 4

 

Jaimi-Lee said “I was truly honoured and deeply grateful to have been a part of the Indigenous Scholarship’s program. This program provided exceptional support and guidance throughout my studies. The mentorship provided by the team empowered me to take on new challenges and opportunities to help me reach my full potential and achieve my dreams of becoming a doctor! I could not be more grateful and appreciative of the team and thank them immensely for all their professionalism, advice, and genuine support.”

Taryn said “As her mentor I had an overwhelming sense of joy for her once she completed her studies as she was so humble and passionate about the work she will now be doing as a doctor! I am so happy for her and proud of her achievements, she had a few challenges along her journey and she handled them all with such pride and gratitude never letting anything stop her along the way. She is an inspiration to all! Jaimi-Lee is so deserving of everything that is coming her way, her hard work has really paid off for her and I couldn’t be any happier for her”

The Indigenous Scholarship Program, delivered by the Waalitj Foundation in partnership with Shell’s QGC business, aims to increase First Nations Australians with tertiary and trade qualifications. The program is facilitated by local First Nations mentors who utilise their contextual and cultural understanding to provide individual mentoring for each participant.
