Jaimie’s Journey to Physiotherapy

24 November 2025
Jaimie joined our Indigenous Scholarships Program in 2023, and since then has been an amazing recipient to have in the program.

Jaimie is a proud Wiradjuri women living and working on the beautiful traditional lands of the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples.

Jaimie joined our Indigenous Scholarships Program (ISP) in 2023, and since then has been an amazing recipient to have in the program. ISP is aimed at increasing the number of Indigenous Australians with tertiary and trade qualifications to enhance employment outcomes, with a specific focus in the resources sector. Each scholarship recipient is guided by an Individual Career Plan, which they establish with their mentor, ensuring they have all the support and tools required to reach their goals.

Jaimie’s mentors have loved seeing her grow into the young deadly women that she has become. Taryn, her mentor said “When I first met Jaimie, she was so shy. She didn’t say much but over time she learnt to trust and opened up a lot more.

“She has been an inspiration to watch as she truly has grown through her studies. She faced some challenges along the way, but she never allowed them to stop her main focus.

“I am really proud of Jaimie and she should be so proud of herself! Both of us are Territory girls so we could relate on a lot of things especially missing home. I am glad I was able to be part of her journey. I know her family back home in Katherine will be so proud of her!”

Speaking on her experience in ISP, Jaimie said “I am very grateful to have received support via the Waalitj Foundation. I wouldn’t have been able to move interstate to complete my studies without the financial assistance. It gave me a financial buffer when my university became stressful, allowing me to focus on my studies.

“The additional mentoring session with Taryn ensured I was on the right track. Knowing I had support if I needed it made uni life easier and less stressful. Thank you for everything over the past 3 years, I look forward to starting my new career as a Physiotherapist.”

Well done Jaimie! The Waalitj Foundation wish you all the best for your future.
