Meet Rebeckah!
Rebeckah has connections to the Jackson, Haywoods family from around Mount Barker and Albany, and grew up in Perth.
Her first connection with our employment program began years ago, back when it was still operating out of Leederville. As one of the very first participants, she completed a Certificate II in Mining and Business training that opened doors. Soon after, she found herself working at the Aboriginal Workforce Development Centre, then later secured a role at Water Corporation.
Recently Rebeckah has rejoined our P242 Employment program after some time away from the workforce. “I just wanted to get back out there, and I knew that this was always there, so I came back,” she said.
Rebeckah spoke about having a program like P242, saying “It’s good to have this support out in the community for our people.”
Our Fit 4 Work sessions incorporate presentations from potential employers and complimentary service providers, including health/mental health. They also cover career development and employability skills, like mock interviews and budgeting sessions. Our mentors deliver the weekly program and provide mentoring support for participants whilst also improving the health and wellbeing of attendees.
With the support of the P242 program, Rebeckah has landed a job at Djinda Produce. Her role is to assist with picking, packing, labelling and checking orders for dispatch. “My favourite thing about my job is having a great bunch of people to work with, having a laugh. I think that’s what makes it really good to work.’
Rebecka encourages job seekers to take the same step, “Especially for our mob, I feel like if you want that support, if you want a forever mentor, it’s always there. It’s a really good place to come.”
Plan 2day 4 2morrow (P242) is a pre-employment program assisting Indigenous job seekers including weekly pre-employment group sessions (Fit 4 Work) with individual mentoring support. P242 focuses on improving employability of Indigenous job seekers through the development of foundation skills and work readiness. We are proud to be delivering this program in multiple locations across Perth and Peel regions of Western Australia in partnership with the Alcoa Foundation and Shell. Find out more.
