Our Deadly Sista Girlz participants took part in a Puppy Yoga class as part of their end of term reward. Students began the class by getting introduced to each of the puppies before easing into their yoga session. They started with breathing exercises designed to help them relax and slow their heart rates. As the instructor explained, this is also beneficial for the puppies, helping them feel calm, safe, and comfortable. After the yoga session participants enjoyed some quality time with the puppies, soaking up plenty of cuddles and puppy love.
End of term awards are organised by our DSG mentors to recognise students who have consistently engaged with both the DSG program and their schooling throughout the term. Students who demonstrate DSG values and behaviours, maintain at least 70% school attendance, and remain in good standing at school are invited to take part.
End of term rewards are an important way of celebrating the hard work, commitment and positive choices our young people make. They support our goal of inspiring First Nations girls to thrive in education, health and life, while recognising and rewarding their achievements along the way.
As well as enjoying their session with the puppies, our DSG participants had the opportunity to speak with a qualified veterinary nurse as well as a qualified yoga instructor and learn about her career, and how she got into the profession. It provided valuable insight into the industry and exposed participants to a potential future career pathway.
Deadly Sista Girlz is a culturally-appropriate program designed to improve school attendance and education attainment amongst First Nations girls. The program is led by strong First Nations role models who empower participants to make informed decisions about their health, education and future careers. Deadly Sista Girlz is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, with support from corporate partners. Find out more.
