“I walk away with appreciation and gratefulness for the help that I received from anyone that was along that journey” said Dylan.

Meet Dylan!

Dylan is a proud Yindjibarndi man from Roebourne and grew up in Carnarvon.

Dylan joined the ReSet program about a year ago with the goal of finding full-time employment in mining, drawing on his previous experience and a personal motivation ‘I just wanted to get back into providing for my daughter. Living a better life and not make those mistakes again.’ He said.

Dylan’s first contact with the ReSet Program was with one of our ReSet Employment Mentors, Evelyn. Dylan said that Evelyn was a great support and provided Dylan with avenues to gaining employment.

Dylan is currently working at Rio Tinto as a Production Operator but is hoping to working his way to becoming a digger operator or a water cart operator.

Evelyn, Dylan’s mentor said “As an Employment and Training mentor with Waalitj Foundation we are supported, encouraged and resourced to be able to engage and create a professional rapport of trust and respect at first initial contact , where their journey can take a dramatic redirection towards their dreams, our job is like a compass, it is to assist they’re walking the right path, with new skills and tools and whilst given the right support and guidance. These kinds of results are why we do what we do! We too are blessed!”

The ReSet program deliver holistic focused services that work closely with other providers using a throughcare model aimed at addressing individual barriers to employment that a person exiting the justice system may be facing.

Reflecting on his time with the ReSet Program, Dylan offered advice for mob, “Definitely use your resources and don’t be scared to accept any help”

By sharing his story, Dylan hopes ‘to inspire others that they too can do what I have done & more’

For the Waalitj Foundation, it is encouraging to see participants achieve their goals! Well done Dylan, you are an inspiration to First Nations peoples.
